Workshop Levels
To help make selecting a workshop a little easier we have given you a rough idea of the things you “should’ be able to do in order to get the most from your chosen workshop. These are pretty general and only for a guide. The different levels are progressive so if you are looking at a level 4 workshop just check on the skills set for the ones below to make sure you feel confident you will make the most of a level 4 workshop.
But if you have any questions please get in touch.
Level 1 - Complete Beginner
May have never touched a sewing machine before. Or may have done some sewing a very long time ago. May need a refresher on how to thread up a machine and sew basic seams.
Level 2 - Home & Interiors
May have made cushions or simple bags. Should have a basic knowledge of how to thread up and use a sewing machine and sew a basic seam. Will have worked with some stable fabrics like craft cotton.
Level 3 - Beginner Dressmaker
Will be confident using a sewing machine and sewing seams. Will understand the importance of finishing seams and will have made a simple garment like pyjama bottoms or a top. Should have a sewing machine at home to finish off projects as we cannot guarantee things will be finished in-class.
Level 4 Advanced Beginner Dressmaker
Has made simple garments recently and is familiar with dressmaking patterns. Can measure themselves and select an appropriate size. May be familiar with using an overlocker to finish their garments.
Level 5 Intermediate Dressmaker
Can make simple garments unaided and is happy to follow a pattern. Would like to learn how to work with trickier fabrics such as viscose and silk. But feel they need support with zips and pockets
Level 6 Advanced Dressmaker
Will have been making clothes for some time. Is confident following a pattern and has done some simple pattern alterations. May have some experience of fitting but is looking to improve.
