A one-day workshop to understand and improve garment fit
Have you ever finished a garment only to feel that something isn’t quite right - pulling at the shoulders, dragging at the front, excess fabric where you don’t want it?
You’re not alone, and it’s not a failure of your sewing.
Fit issues are rarely about skill level. More often, they’re about understanding why a garment behaves the way it does on your body - and knowing how to fix it.
Fit & Fix is a practical, supportive one-day workshop focused on diagnosing common fit problems and learning how to correct them with confidence.
What you’ll work on
You’ll bring along a garment or toile that doesn’t fit as you’d hoped. Together, we’ll look at:
-
Where the fit is working
-
Where it’s causing problems
-
What adjustments will make the biggest difference
Rather than guessing or unpicking endlessly, you’ll learn how to read the fabric and make informed decisions.
What you’ll learn
During the day, you’ll explore:
-
How to identify common fit issues in the bodice and lower body
-
How balance, proportion, and grain affect fit
-
Simple, practical pattern and garment adjustments you can apply again and again
-
When a garment can be fixed - and when it’s better to step back and rethink
The focus is on understanding, not perfection.
What you’ll leave with
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have:
-
A clearer understanding of your own recurring fit issues
-
Marked-up patterns or garments with notes and adjustments
-
Increased confidence in assessing fit in future projects
-
A calm, methodical approach to troubleshooting fit problems
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate sewists.
You should be comfortable using a sewing machine and have some experience making garments, but you don’t need any previous knowledge of pattern alteration. If you’ve ever felt stuck, frustrated, or unsure why a garment doesn’t fit — this workshop is designed for you.
Why Fit & Fix?
When you understand fit, everything changes. Sewing becomes less about trial and error and more about making thoughtful, confident choices. This workshop gives you tools you can return to again and again - for every garment you make.
