A one-day workshop making the Cobweb Camisole

Silk has a reputation for being difficult - slippery, delicate, and easy to spoil. In reality, it simply asks for a different approach. With the right techniques and a calm, supported environment, silk becomes a joy to sew.

This one-day workshop is a practical, confidence-building introduction to working with silk, where you’ll make the Cobweb Camisole and learn the skills needed to achieve beautiful, professional finishes on fine fabrics.

Rather than rushing through a project, we’ll slow things down and focus on understanding how silk behaves, how to handle it accurately, and how to sew it without frustration.

What you’ll learn

During the day, you’ll be guided step by step through essential silk-sewing techniques, including:

  • How to cut silk accurately without shifting or distortion

  • How to handle and stabilise silk so seams remain smooth and neat

  • Different methods for finishing seams on fine fabrics

  • How and when to use specialist equipment, such as fine pins, needles, and rotary cutters

  • How to sew a clean, even rolled hem

  • How to create beautiful spaghetti straps in silk

  • How to add a facing for a refined, professional finish

These are transferable skills you can apply to many other silk and lightweight fabric projects in the future.

What you’ll make

This is a fully hands-on, practical class. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with:

  • A finished silk Cobweb Camisole

  • Increased confidence working with delicate fabrics

  • A clear understanding of techniques you can repeat at home

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is ideal if you:

  • Have sewn with cottons or linens and feel nervous about silk

  • Want to improve the quality and finish of your garments

  • Own beautiful fabrics but aren’t sure how to handle them properly

  • Enjoy learning in a calm, supportive studio environment

You should be comfortable using a sewing machine, but no previous experience sewing silk is needed.

Why learn to sew with silk?

Silk rewards care and attention. Once you understand how to work with it, it opens the door to a whole new level of garment making — elegant tops, special pieces, and fabrics you no longer feel afraid to cut into.

This workshop is about replacing fear with understanding, and giving you the confidence to work with silk again and again.
