A two-day workshop focused on fit, finishing, and confidence
Have you ever sewn a dress that looked promising on the hanger, but somehow didn’t quite work when you put it on?
This two-day workshop is about slowing down, paying attention to fit and finish, and making thoughtful decisions that result in a dress you genuinely want to wear - not one that stays at the back of the wardrobe.
Rather than rushing to “get it done”, we’ll focus on understanding how a dress fits your body, refining key areas, and applying clean, considered finishing techniques.
What you’ll work on
You’ll bring a dress pattern you’d like to make - either one of your own or one from The Cloth Cutter collection. The style is up to you, allowing you to work on something that suits your body, your taste, and your wardrobe.
Over the two days, you’ll focus on:
-
Improving fit in key areas such as shoulders, bust, waist, and length
-
Making informed adjustments before and during construction
-
Applying finishing techniques that elevate the final garment
This is not about perfection - it’s about making confident, informed choices.
What you’ll learn
During the workshop, you’ll explore:
-
How to assess fit at different stages of construction
-
How small adjustments can make a big difference to comfort and appearance
-
Techniques for neat, durable, and professional-looking finishes
-
How to make decisions that suit your fabric, pattern, and body
The emphasis is on skills and understanding you can carry forward into future projects.
What you’ll leave with
By the end of the two days, you’ll leave with:
-
A dress well on its way to completion - and in many cases finished
-
A clearer understanding of how to achieve a good fit for your body
-
Increased confidence in finishing garments to a high standard
-
Practical knowledge you can apply to every dress you make in the future
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate sewists.
You should be comfortable using a sewing machine and have some experience following garment patterns. Whether you’re new to fitting adjustments or looking to refine your skills, this workshop offers calm, individual support at every stage.
Why Fit & Finish?
When you give fit and finishing the time they deserve, sewing becomes far more satisfying - and the garments you make are far more likely to be worn.
This workshop is about building confidence, refining skills, and creating clothes that feel good on your body and in your life.
