Techniques That Open New Doors
Each term, you’ll dive into one creative approach to pattern cutting. By the end of the year, you’ll not only have a portfolio of finished garments, but also the skills to design with confidence for life.
Module 1
Dart Manipulation
Discover how simple dart rotations can dramatically change shape and fit. You’ll learn how to move, combine, or split darts to create everything from subtle shaping to striking new silhouettes.
Module 2
Creative Seam Placement
Reimagine your garments by shifting seam lines. You’ll experiment with unusual seam positions to sculpt curves, add interest, and create designs that stand out.
Module 3
Zero Waste Cutting
Work sustainably by designing garments that minimise waste. Learn how to use suppression, folds, and clever layout to transform flat fabric into beautiful clothing.
Module 4
Draping on the Stand
Step away from the paper and cut straight into fabric. Draping allows you to design in three dimensions, sculpting directly on the mannequin to bring your ideas to life.
How the Level 3 Diploma Works
The diploma runs over 12 months and is designed to give you consistent progress with flexibility.
We know that creative learning takes time, space, and support. That’s why the Diploma is structured around a rhythm that keeps you moving forward without overwhelming you.
Studio Days
Two full days per month at our Cotswolds studio — time to focus, explore, and make progress in a calm, inspiring environment.
Online Support
Online check-ins between sessions to answer questions, share progress, and keep momentum going. The Zoom calls in between sessions will keep you motivated and on track.
Research & Experimentation
Space between studio days to research, practice, and play with ideas at your own pace. This will give you the time to play with ideas and techniques before committing to your final garments.
Personal Mentoring
Limited class sizes mean you’ll get individual guidance from Jules, plus encouragement from your fellow students.This mix of in-person and online learning means you’ll always feel supported, motivated, and on track.

I’m Jules Fallon, your guide through the Diploma. I’ve worked as a professional pattern cutter for over 30 years, teaching garment construction and design to makers of all levels. Over that time, I’ve helped thousands of students grow their skills — from absolute beginners to confident designers running their own studios.
What drives me is seeing those lightbulb moments when everything clicks. My teaching style is friendly, supportive, and practical — I’ll challenge you to experiment, but I’ll always be there to catch you if you stumble.
